Tagua Seed - Love it!
Tagua is a seed that can grow to about the size of a grapefruit. When dried it has the texture of Ivory. BUT, it is completely renewable. Tagua has taken the place of using animal ivory and bone and helps sustain the natural eco system where it is found in Northern South America and Southern Central America.
These gorgeous tagua pieces are coordinated with other rainforest seeds to make up stunning, eco friendly designs.

Tagua, Vegetable Ivory, or Palm Nut are all names for a seed harvested from Ivory Palms indigenous to the forests of parts of South and Central America. The seed resembles Ivory when it is dried and can be carved into jewelry, buttons, and sculptural pieces. Unlike Ivory, Tagua is a RENEWABLE RESOURCE that brings hope to the plight of the rainforests and its inhabitants.
Tagua is a NATURAL part of the ecosystem, but it is also an invaluable source of income to the people living in these forests. In fact, it is more economically advantageous for the people to protect their natural ecosystems than to clear-cut the same land for other uses. Just as important, Tagua is replacing the use of Animal Ivory and Bone.
